From the dusty mesa her looming shadow grows

她朦朧身影自 塵土紛飛的山脈 隱隱若現

Hidden in the branches of the poison creosote

She twines her spines up slowly towards the boiling sun,

In the hushing dusk, under a swollen silver moon,

I came walking with the wind to watch the cactus bloom.

And strange hands halted me; the looming shadows danced.

I fell down to the thorny brush and felt a trembling hand.

When the last light warms the rocks and the rattlesnakes unfold,

當最後曙光 溫熱山岩， 揭露 響尾蛇蹤跡

Mountain cats will come to drag away your bones.

山貓 挨近 叼走你屍骨

And rise with me forever across the silent sand,

伴我永升 一起穿越這無聲的風塵

And the stars will be your eyes and the wind will be my hands.

你的眼眸幻化為星，我的雙手便成風

Note:

1. Mesa:方山，孤立高聳之桌形台地，因其頂部由水平層次之硬岩覆蓋，故能長期存在。如南京附近之方山，頂部即有兩層玄武岩，其下則為礫石層。方山亦稱作平頂山。(引用自:國家教育研究院)

2. Creosote(Larrea tridentata):三齒葉灌木、木餾油灌木，一種生長於美國西南方、墨西哥北部與南美洲之常綠灌木。
